“I began writing my story at the age of 37, because I’d read that in order to overcome PTSD one had to be able to tell one’s story.”
Every now and then when we need help, we’re fortunate enough to know exactly what type we need and where to find it.
However, even in our modern world with all the technology, resources, and wisdom of medicine, gaps in our cultural understanding of post-trauma leave many of us in chasms of loneliness that take tremendous courage to heal.
Last year I was contacted by Michele Rosenthal, Post-Trauma Coach, Author, Radio Show Host, and founder of HealMyPTSD.com, to discuss the role of soul retrieval in healing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, on her blog, then later on her radio show.
A survivor of PTSD, herself, Rosenthal has dedicated her life to educating others about PTSD and helping survivors find relief.
Taking her work to the air waves, she created the show Your Life After Trauma on Seaview Radio, where she hosts specialists from all walks of healing to discuss overcoming PTSD and answer questions from listeners.
A further extension of her work is her newly released first book, Before the World Intruded: Conquering the Past and Creating the Future. Rosenthal describes her memoir as “an odyssey that took [me] from the depths of despair to the heights of joy, from [my] kitchen floor to the dance floor.” Indeed, she endured 25 years of highs and lows in the throes of PTSD after a medical mistake led to an allergic reaction resulting in 3rd degree burns.
“I began writing my story at the age of 37, because I’d read that in order to overcome PTSD one had to be able to tell one’s story. I couldn’t talk about what had happened to me, so I decided to write it as a way to recover.”
Of her healing, Rosenthal says, “PTSD is a wholly treatable condition. If someone had given my parents or me information about it sooner, I might not have lost more than a quarter of my life to it.”
Using alternative methods to release her symptoms, she says, “It became my mission to educate about PTSD so that others have the opportunity to engage in the recovery process sooner.” Rosenthal does exactly that. The brief time we worked together inspired me to revisit my own healing needs, to very liberating end. She’s not just focused on telling her healing story, but in helping others craft their own.
Indeed, in the story of Rosenthal’s transformation lie the seeds for anyone who wants to conquer the past and create the future. Her memoir shows what can happen when you discover who you are, then choose who you most deeply want to be.
Positive support for the book has been enormous, inspiring Rosenthal to create Project Give Back, a campaign giving free healing and self-help resources donated from healing professionals and survivors from around the world to inspire and support trauma survivors in their quest for recovery. These resources are available to those who buy the book throughout the year; however, those who purchase the book by 31 May and sign up for Project Give Back are eligible to win services
