Since I started in the book writing business, publishing my first book, Real You Incorporated, in 2008, I’ve known the way to find your readers is through your local bookstore. When I began this author journey, I lived in Columbus, Ohio, and there we were fortunate to have an exemplary local bookstore chain owned by the Gaylord family for more than 30 years called Little Professor. I spent hours in that store growing up and I dreamed of one day seeing a book of mine displayed in that store on Lane Avenue. Unfortunately, by the time Real You Incorporated hit the shelves, Little Professor was gone.

My first novel Here, Home, Hope published in 2011 and I was living in Malibu. Unfortunately, at that time, there weren’t any bookstores in the town. Imagine, then, my delight when we moved to Laguna Beach and I discovered Laguna Beach Books and met its fabulous owner Jane Hanauer and manager Lisa Childers. The bookstore is a treasure: a literary beacon in our beach town. Laguna Beach Books has supported every one of my novels since I moved to town, whether they were self-published, small press published, Big Five, or as now, and trickier, published by an imprint of Amazon.

I’ve had every book launch party at my local bookstore – with the launch of The Next Wife via Zoom during Covid. Their support of me and my books has been one of the best gifts of this career. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Anne Saller the owner of Book Carnival in Orange for championing my suspense novels. I can’t wait to celebrate my next book, Somebody’s Home, with an in person (yay!) event at Book Carnival January 23rd.

There’s nothing like your hometown bookstore. Seeing my books on the shelf at Laguna Beach Books fills me with the joy I’d dreamed of all those years ago while browsing the shelves at Little Professor. Thank you, Laguna Beach Books, for making my dreams come true.
