Alycat and the Sunday Scaries

“Bourque’s entertaining and captivating story brilliantly showcases the importance of having supportive friends who encourage and uplift each other through life’s ups and downs. Their teamwork, kindness, and positive attitudes are not only admirable but also inspiring.” — The Children’s Book Review

It’s Sunday, the day before the school week begins, and Alycat is nervous. She just knows that Monday is going to be the Mondayest Monday ever! On the playground, Alycat realizes she isn’t the only one suffering from the Sunday Scaries. It’s hard to ride a bike. What if Kit falls? The treehouse is so high. Will Spotty make it safely back down? The kittens band together to overcome their fears, but can they turn the Sunday Scaries into a Sunday Funday? The themes of the books in the Alycat Series all reflect a reliance on friendships, imagination, and creativity towards problem solving. Fans of Alycat and her friends will enjoy spotting references to the kittens’ daily adventures within these pages. Tips for a successful lemonade stand are included!

Alysson Interviews Alycat

Alysson: Hi Alycat! What are you up to?

Alycat: Just packing for my grandparents’ house!

Alysson: Oh, fun! That’s exciting! What do you have planned there?

Alycat: We will go fishing, bake sweets, and watch movies!

Alysson: You sure do like baking.

Alycat: It’s the purrfect activity!

Alysson: Have you ever baked something you didn’t like?

Alycat: Yep!

Alysson: What was that?

Alycat: I baked a cheesecake that was not good.

Alysson: How can a cheesecake be “not good”?

Alycat: When you put sour cream instead of cream cheese in it, haha!

Alysson: Yikes, that doesn’t sound good.

Alycat: Nope, I was a real sourpuss after that.

Alysson: I bet it was a real catastrophe!

Alycat: It was paw-ful!

Alysson: You’re going to have so much fun at your grandparents.

Alycat: Yeah…

Alysson: What’s the matter?

Alycat: Sometimes I get scared to leave home.

Alysson: That’s totally normal, Alycat. Everyone gets homesick now and then.

Alycat: I love going there. I just get a little nervous not sleeping in my own bed.

Alysson: Yeah, there are some tricks you can do to help, Alycat.

Alycat: Really? What are those?

Alysson: Well, when you start to feel homesick, let your grandparents know. I’m sure they will give you a big hug.

Alycat: That is very true. They love hugs.

Alysson: You can also bring a picture of your family with you to display next to your bed over there.

Alycat: Oh, I have the perfect photo to bring!

Alysson: That’s a great photo! Where are you all in that picture?

Alycat: This is when we went to the theme park.

Alysson: And, you didn’t get homesick there, I bet.

Alycat: No, we were too busy there to get homesick.

Alysson: Well, I know your grandparents will have lots of fun activities to do to keep you busy.

Alycat: You’re right!

Alysson: And when you start to feel nervous, you can do some simple steps.

Alycat: Like what?

Alysson: You can take a deep breath counting to three and exhale counting to three.

Alycat: I know how to do that! That’s easy!

Alysson: You can also get your mind off of being homesick by going for a walk or ride a bike.

Alycat: Oh, I love taking a walk at my grandparents. They have so many flowers, trees, and even chickens!

Alysson: Wow! That sounds like a farm!

Alycat: It sure is!

Alysson: See, you have so many things to look forward to! You better finish packing.

Alycat: On it! Too bad you can’t come!

Alysson: Maybe next time!

Alycat: Deal!

Alysson: Have fun! See you when you get back!

Alycat: See you soon!
