Chinese Women Writers
When looking for women authors from different countries, two sources jump out. Wikipedia, and the UPenn directory of women authors, which is actively updated. As of May 2011, when this page was written, there were 70 listings under Chinese Women authors.
One question is do we include only those Chinese women who know and write in their own language? Or is it sufficient that they are of Chinese descent, even if they’ve been in England or America or Australia for three generations. The question of identity is complex, as there are many many variations.
Here is a list of some Chinese women writers, randomly, as we have learned about them.
Wang Anyi, is a Chinese woman writer, who is a finalist for the Man Booker Prize in 2011. Here’s a link to a lengthier article about her.
Liu Sola is a composer who has also written many books.
Zhang, Yueran 张悦然 is a prize winning author getting a PhD in Chinese Literature at Beijing University. She is the editor in chief of Newriting, a literary magazine.
