Planes, Trains, And All the Feels

Fans of Christina Lauren and Tessa Bailey will adore this witty and unforgettable rom-com about skyways, highways, and all the perfectly wrong ways to fall in love.

As the black sheep of the family, choreographer Cassidy Bliss vowed she’d do anything to get home in time to help with her sister’s wedding and avoid family disappointment…again. She just never expected “anything” would involve sharing the last rental car with the jerk who cut her off in line at the airport this morning. But horrible times apparently call for here-goes-nothing measures.

Driving across the country with Luke “life can be solved with a spreadsheet” Carlisle must be a penance for some crime she committed. Because the second he opens his mouth, it’s all she can do to not maim him with her carry-on. But somewhere between his surprisingly thoughtful snack sharing and his uncanny ability to see straight to the core of her, her feelings go unchecked.

Suddenly, their crackling chemistry is just one more thing they have to navigate—and it couldn’t come at a worse time. But after a lifetime of letting the expectations and needs of others drive her life, Cassidy must decide if she’s ready to take the wheel once and for all.

Livy Hart interviews Cassidy Bliss, the protagonist in her new rom-com, Planes, Trains, And All the Feels about the impromptu road trip she didn’t ask for, her unlikely travel companion, and her tips for the beleaguered traveler.

Livy: Cassidy, your car is smoking.

Cassidy: What? Not again. One car crisis was enough.

Livy: I meant to say it’s a smoking hot convertible.

Cassidy: Oh! Thank you. I’ve got to get to my sister’s wedding fast, and that Mustang has some serious horsepower. Plus if I show up in a nice car, my mother will believe I have my life together. Win-win.

Livy: So that guy waiting for you on the bench outside—the one who is pacing and checking his watch—he’s your date?

Cassidy: I like to joke he’s my Uber driver. He doesn’t appreciate the joke, which makes it even funnier. But no, that’s Luke Carlisle. He’s an actuary, whatever that is. I picked him up at the airport in the car rental line. Or he picked me up. Not in the literal sense! Or in the dating sense. What was I saying? We’re both going to California and now we’re stuck together.

Livy: Luke Carlisle. California bound. Got it. He’s got an intense smolder.

Cassidy: That’s his regular face. You get used to it.

Livy: And what’s it like, spending every second of the day with Mr. Smolder in such tight quarters?

Cassidy: It’s not like that. Well, it is like that in the sense that the quarters are tight. We’re always all over each other—in each other’s space, I mean. I’m babbling again. He’s a good guy, all right? If not for him, I’d be stranded completely.

Livy: Sounds like there are worse people to enjoy a road trip with.

Cassidy: I’m not sure “enjoy” is the word either of us would use. We can’t make it more than a few miles without a disaster. First it was our plane problem, then it was our first rental car fiasco, and then it was the motel situation—

Livy: Motel situation?

Cassidy: We stayed at the most amazing and unhinged roadside motel I’ve ever seen. It was under the sea themed, with grandfather clocks that spit out sharks, jellyfish in the walls, and a bed in the shape of a clamshell.

Livy: Just the one?

Cassidy: No, there were lots of jellyfish.

Livy: I meant the bed.

Cassidy: That’s how the rooms are designed! After the series of unfortunate events we’ve endured, we can’t afford more than one. We’re fighting for our lives out here! We have to save every penny to afford all these unexpected setbacks.

Livy: Got it. And will you be bringing Luke to the wedding?

Cassidy: I’ll just be happy to make it there on time and in one piece. I’m not worried about a date. Though my mother would adore Luke, which frankly makes me want to hide him and keep him all for myself so I can spare him her meddling. Not that I’ll be keeping him after this trip. He’s not a souvenir or something… sorry, next question?

Livy: Sure. What advice would you have for someone embarking on a cross-country trip?

Cassidy: Buy travel insurance. Pack multiple phones—I don’t know how that would work, but just trust me. And make friends with everyone you meet. You never know when someone might change your life.

Livy: Like Luke changed yours?

Cassidy: I plead the fifth.
