Authors Interviewing Characters series: Amber Daulton
About Arresting Mason, book one in the sexy romantic suspense series Arresting Onyx
Once you’re in a prison gang, you’re in it for life.
That’s what Mason Harding thought until the boss accepted his resignation. After the State releases him on parole, a sexy divorcée behind the wheel of a car almost ends his life quicker than a shank. His chance encounter with Mia Eddison results in a night of passion, but her brother—his parole officer—catches them together and doesn’t approve.
Mia falls hard for the cocky ex-con, but not because of his chiseled body. She vows to break through his walls and discover his secrets, but never expects those secrets to threaten her life.
When members of an organized crime ring kidnap Mia to force Mason’s return to the gang, he goes up against an old friend to save the woman he loves. Will his sacrifice be enough or will everything fall apart in a blaze of gunfire?

Amber Daulton sits with Mason, Mia, and Jim in Mia’s living room. It’s only been two weeks since the events of Arresting Mason, but it’s never too early to catch up.
Amber: Thank you for chatting with me today. Wow, Mia, I can hardly believe this. Mason and Jim are in the same room together without arguing or fighting.
Mia: [laughing] I know, right? They’ve come a long way and have buried the hatchet. I guess almost dying will make you think twice about hating someone.
Mason: [snorting] I never started the fight. [He glares at Jim.] But I’m man enough to make peace with my girlfriend’s brother as long as he keeps his nose out of our relationship from now on.
Jim: What the hell was I supposed to do? I was your parole officer, and you’re dating my baby sister. You’re lucky you’re not back behind bars.
Amber: Though you did try, Jim. You can’t claim you didn’t.
Jim: I made things tougher on him. I never actively tried to get him to do something stupid and break parole. He did all that on his own.
Mason: True. I screwed up a few times, but I’m still here. [He spreads his arms to indicate Mia’s spacious loft.]
Mia: And we have you-know-who to thank for that.
Jim: We are not discussing that prick.
Mason: Show him some damn respect. We’d be knee-deep in Onyx if not for Thorn.
Amber: Easy, easy. [I raise my hands to placate the growling men.] I’m more than grateful you guys weren’t forced to join that gang. Thorn seems like a dangerous criminal, but he let you go when it would’ve been a lot easier on him to either kill you or force you to join Onyx. Sorry, Jim, but I agree with Mason—show some respect.
Mia: [nodding] I concur. I still have nightmares over from kidnapping, but I know I’ll get better in time. Mason’s been my rock. Without him, I don’t know what I would do.
Mason: [holding Mia’s hand] Things have been good with us. I’m still working at the garage and Mia at the boutique, and since Jim is no longer my babysitter, I’m not so stressed anymore.
Jim: I’m not apologizing for trying to break you guys up. I thought you were using Mia, that you didn’t really care about her, but I’ll admit I was wrong. That’s as far as I’m going.
Amber: Better than nothing, right, Mia?
Mia: [sighing] I can’t wait for Jim to get a girlfriend. Tit-for-tat, you know?
Jim: No worries there. I don’t need or want a girlfriend.
Mason: Bull. What about that little blonde waitress at the diner? You drool every time she comes around.
Jim: Leave Calista out of this.
Mia: Ooh. Who’s Calista?
Amber: [clearing throat] Well, I have it on good authority that Jim will be spending a lot of time with Calista in the near future. So you’ll have plenty of opportunities to stick your nose where it doesn’t belong.
Mia: [rubbing hands together evilly] I knew it!
Mason: [clapping Jim on the back] Good luck.
Jim: [sulking] Ah, hell. Will Calista be all right? My life isn’t all hunky-dory right now.
Amber: Sorry. Lips are sealed. But why aren’t things so great with you? You’re alive and not slinging drugs on street corners.
Jim: Which I’m grateful for, but…never mind.
Mia: He’s been like that since everything happened. He’ll say something, then retract it. It’s driving me crazy.
Amber: Keep an eye on him. I think he’ll need it.
Mason: We will. Mia loves her dickhead brother, so that makes him my family too.
Mia: Aww. [leaning over the sofa to kiss him]
Jim: Stop, or I’ll blow chunks.
Amber [laughing]: Jim has a point. I won’t blow chunks, but I don’t care to see you guys make out. I wrote your book after all. Thanks again for chatting with me.
Mia: No problem. Stop by anytime.
[After the farewells, Jim escorts me to the door as Mia and Mason kiss again.]
Jim: [whispering] Seriously, though, I get together with Calista?
Amber: And soon too. I wish you luck. You’re gonna need it.
