When Facebook Takes Your Breath Away: Katie Kennedy
There should be a term for it, social media updates which are, well…breathtaking. Katie Kennedy kindly lets us share her words from her Facebook wall today.
I ordered flowers to be delivered to our son’s pediatric oncologist. When the florist asked what the card should say, I said, “Joe Kennedy started college.”
She was quiet for a moment, then said, “You’ve ordered these before, for a lot of years,” and I said, “Yeah. We sent ‘Joseph Kennedy started kindergarten’, and middle school, and high school, and when he turned eighteen.”
She said, “You always cry when you order them,” and I said, “Yeah.” Then she said, “I want you to know, I do, too.”

What a beautiful idea. I wish I had thought of it, but it’s never too late I suppose. I think I’ll send flowers to my son’s pediatric neurologist from over twenty years ago (she’s still in practice). The card would say, Matthew DeBonis has a college degree and a good job and a girlfriend and his own apartment, and is saving to buy a house next year. Such mundane milestones for some people. Monumental for us.
