How Emotional Posture Came to Be By Dr. Colette D. Sinclair, PhD
The Events that Propelled me to Examine Energetic States to Create Inner Alignment
By outward measure, I had done everything right. By the time I was twenty-seven, I was established, at the top of a career I had worked toward without pause. I had followed every prescribed rule, checked every box society handed me, and pushed myself past any reasonable human limit to do it. For years, I worked three jobs simultaneously while attending college full-time, giving my body almost nothing in return; barely enough sleep, barely enough stillness, never enough rest. I was, from the outside, a success story in the making.
And then my life fell apart. Despite doing everything “right,” nothing was working. My relationships, my sense of self, my inner world, all of it was in disarray. And then I lost the one thing I had taken entirely for granted, my health.
In that moment of complete unraveling, I made the one decision that would quietly change everything. I rebelled. I refused the path traditional medicine was offering me and chose instead to embark on my own healing journey, one guided by instinct and a willingness to look far beyond the boundaries of conventional care. It was an important act of self-determination.
That journey did not unfold gently. At one point, I nearly drowned at sea. Suspended in that water, in the terrifying clarity of a moment where survival is not guaranteed, I realized with absolute certainty that I wanted to live, under any circumstances, on any terms. That desire to live was not just biological. It was a declaration. Everything in my heart, mind, emotion, and being aligned. And something in me answered it. Something miraculous happened.
My body healed completely. Not improved, healed. Medical tests that had previously revealed serious pathology could no longer find anything wrong. It was as though the illness had never existed. What had shifted? I had. Every aspect of how I was living, eating, thinking, and relating to my body changed. I went on to study energy medicine and orthomolecular medicine, drawn irresistibly toward the science of how we are truly organized as biological beings, not merely as collections of symptoms to be managed, but as dynamic systems capable of profound self-regulation and renewal.
I became driven. I left the security of corporate contracts, entered private practice and began working with clients. What I witnessed deepened everything I had started to understand about health. Miraculous results became, not exceptional, but possible, even probable, when the right conditions were created. Yet, I kept wondering what was consistently missing from the care people were receiving? What gap existed between the system that was supposed to help them and the healing they were actually capable of?
The answer, I came to believe, is both systemic and structural. The United States does not operate a true “healthcare” system. It operates a manufactured and managed sickness system designed to treat symptoms rather than address root causes; to maintain dependency rather than cultivate resilience. I knew this from my own body, my own brush with that system, and from years of sitting with clients whose genuine healing began only when they found their way outside of it.
My search expanded. I began studying spiritual practices and entered formal meditation training. I explored the traditions that have mapped human consciousness for thousands of years. I discovered universal laws—the organizing principles that appear to govern how energy, attention, and emotion interact with physical reality. The moment I encountered this knowledge, I felt an unmistakable click of recognition. This was the missing piece. Not just for health, but for everything.
What I understood immediately was that human beings already possess the innate technology to use these principles. We are not passive recipients of circumstance. We are participants in the creation of our own reality through the emotional states we occupy, the energetic fields we generate, and the inner alignment we either cultivate or neglect. The question was never whether this power existed. The question is how to make it accessible, practical, and teachable.
I began writing Emotional Posture on the Athenian coast of Greece. I was traveling alone for my fortieth birthday, a deliberate act of solitude and self-celebration, and something about the accumulation of my clinical and lived experience and the spaciousness of wisdom and maturity, illuminated a clarity I had been circling for years. The framework that had been crystallizing in my clinical practice, my research, and my own lived experience suddenly wanted to be written.
The moment I committed to writing this work, my life began to unravel. Multiple obstacles arrived in rapid succession, as though the Universe was testing whether I meant it. I do not say this lightly or metaphorically. There is something that happens when you claim a work of genuine depth, when you decide to bring forward something true, and it is not always graceful. But I was not deterred. I am, if anything, more committed now than I was during that moment at sea.
Emotional Posture is built around six core energetic states: Gratitude, Acceptance, Ease, Forgiveness, Compassion, and Love. The framework is grounded in neuroscience, HeartMath research, polyvagal theory, and consciousness studies, and it draws on more than two decades of clinical practice with real people navigating real lives. It offers not a philosophy to contemplate, but a set of embodied practices to inhabit.
There is an enormous difference between understanding an emotional concept intellectually and actually residing in that state as a felt, biological reality. Emotional Posture is about the energetic states that create unified states in the body and how that influences every area of our life. I have witnessed hundreds of lives change in profound ways through this work, including my own. Each client who moves through these states deepens my understanding of what is possible. Each transformation I witness renews my conviction that this framework is not merely helpful; it is essential.
People deserve to understand their innate power. Women in particular, who so often carry the weight of professional ambition and domestic life simultaneously, who are socialized to minimize their needs and outsource their authority, deserve to understand what they are actually capable of. Not as an affirmation, but as a biological and energetic fact. The resources are already there. The technology is already inside them.
What I set out to write, and what this book became, is a manual for transformation. I hope it changes something for you. I have every reason to believe it can
