Legendary actor Finn Forrester and his wife philosopher Ella Sinclair Forrester met on the location shoot for Jean Mercier’s film Celebration. The world has been captivated by their fairy-tale romance since Finn famously proposed on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival. As the couple now prepares to celebrate their thirtieth wedding anniversary, they wonder if their children will ever find love.
Eldest daughter Betty is excelling in a medical residency program in New York City—and has convinced herself that distancing herself from emotions is the path to success. Youngest son Albert, a recent college graduate, is trying to find his footing in Boston as he struggles with his identity. Free-spirited Georgia, her mother’s spitting image and an actress following in her father’s footsteps, has been cast in Jean Mercier’s final film, mysteriously titled Beauty. When she arrives on set in Iceland and meets her costar, sparks fly. Is history repeating itself? PL: You wrapped up shooting Jean Mercier’s last film. What can you tell us about it?
GSF: It’s called Beauty. It’s a metaphor but audiences will need to see for themselves. We filmed in a remote location in Iceland. Jean being Jean, the script was pretty sparse, but I knew the film would be amazing. Jean is a true cinematic artist.
PL: As an actress, you’re following in your father’s famous footsteps. What was it like growing up with a movie star parent?
GSF: My siblings didn’t like the attention, but I loved it. Our parents tried to keep things pretty normal for us, but sometimes the paparazzi would follow us. Honestly, I thought it was cool. I would laugh and make jokes, trying to get their attention. I think I was born to be a performer. The best thing was that we traveled all over the world. Our parents always wanted to keep us together, so we’d jet off to wherever either of them was working, for my mom’s university fellowships or my dad’s movies. I especially loved the location shoots for my dad’s films. It was exciting creating a new home in places that felt exotic, and knowing we were there because my dad was a star making a movie. That seemed so special. To me, it was like a dream and set the tone for how I aspire to live.
PL: Rumor is you live a bit of a nomadic lifestyle, like many performers. Is that true?
GSF: I sort of hop around from place to place, for work. Do short-term apartment rentals where I’m never there long enough to fully unpack my things. When an exciting project comes my way, I love having the freedom to pick up, immerse myself, live somewhere new. When I’m in between projects, I usually go back to LA, or I take a long vacation and veg on the beach until the next job.
PL: Tell us about filming in Iceland.
GSF: The landscape was incredible and changed from spot to spot. There were seemingly endless vistas of moss-covered lava rocks with rolling milk chocolate–colored mountains. Then while you were driving the stark terrain eventually gave way to vast green fields covered in mysterious purple flowers, punctuated with streams and waterfalls, and dotted with small horses that looked like they walked off the pages of a fable. In some places the landscape morphed again into a series of volcanoes and mountains, surrounded by rocks and dirt in all shades of brown. It was desolate and opulent all at once. I felt as if I had been dropped off on another planet. It was otherworldly.
PL: Rumor has it you visited the famous Blue Lagoon with your costar Rupert Reed. Is there a romance?
GSF: All I’ll tell you is that the Blue Lagoon is absolutely magical, and so is Rupert.

She was formerly Associate Professor of Sociology, Chairperson of Sociology & Criminology, and Founding Director of Gender Studies at Stonehill College. She has published more than fifty books; her work has been translated into many languages, and she has received more than a hundred book honors. She has also received career awards from the New England Sociological Association, the American Creativity Association, the American Educational Research Association, the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry, and the National Art Education Association. In 2018, she was honored by the National Women’s Hall of Fame and SUNY-New Paltz established the “Patricia Leavy Award for Art and Social Justice.” In 2024 The London Arts-Based Research Centre established “The Patricia Leavy Award for Arts-Based Research.”
