The World I Built When I Couldn’t Go Home

I never planned on wearing multiple creative hats. I simply followed the one thing that never left me – even when everything else was taken away: storytelling.
Writing, acting, and building my own production company weren’t parts of some carefully mapped-out strategy. They were acts of survival, resilience, and ultimately, self-belief.
For a long time, my life looked very different from the one I live now. I left my home and my family, chasing creative opportunities, believing that stepping into the unknown was the only way to honour the dreams I had carried since I was young.
Then the world shifted. Covid forced itself into our lives.
Borders closed. States locked down. And suddenly, I found myself isolated, frightened, and unable to return home.
I was 24 years old and living in Melbourne, the city that endured the longest lockdowns in the world.
What was meant to be a leap of faith became a moment of deep uncertainty.
In that isolation, creativity unexpectedly became the anchor I didn’t know I needed. It was a deeply lonely time—marked by fear, homesickness, and the constant uncertainty of not knowing when I would see my family again or what the future would look like.
When everything external felt unstable, my imagination was the one place I still had control.
Acting had always been my first love, but writing became my refuge.
I began building a world that felt bigger than fear, richer than circumstance, and filled with the kind of magic I desperately needed at the time.
That world would eventually become my first romantic fantasy novel, The Trials of Browid.
A book that became much more than a fantasy story; it is a reflection of endurance, identity, and love tested under impossible conditions.
Writing it allowed me to process loss, distance, and hope all at once. Through fantasy, I could explore very real themes: courage in the face of exile, the strength found in unexpected alliances, and the power of choosing love when fear would be easier.
What began as a personal escape slowly transformed into a novel I was proud to share with others.
At the same time, my passion for acting has never faded. Instead of waiting for permission or opportunity, I decided to create my own. That decision led to the founding of Semper Productions, my independent production company built on the belief that artists should have agency over their stories.
Semper Productions was born out of necessity, but it grew from vision. I wanted to create work that reflected authenticity, resilience, and voices that are too often overlooked.
Through Semper Productions, I produced the mini-series Keys to the Keep. This project was a defining moment for me, not just as an actor, but as a producer and creative leader. Keys to the Keep challenged me to wear multiple hats: developing the project, shaping its narrative, performing on screen, and guiding the production behind the scenes.
It was exhausting, exhilarating, and deeply affirming. It proved that I didn’t need to wait for doors to open; I could build my own.
Balancing writing, acting, and running a production company is not always glamorous. It requires discipline, sacrifice, and an unshakable belief in yourself, especially when the industry – and the world – feels uncertain.
But each role feeds the other. Writing makes me a better actor. Acting sharpens my instincts as a director and producer. Business ownership gives me the freedom to bring my creative visions to life on my own terms.
If my journey holds any lesson, it’s this: resilience is not about never being afraid. It’s about continuing forward despite the fear. I didn’t become an author, actor, and business owner because the path was easy. I became these things because they were the tools I used to survive, to grow, and to reclaim my voice.
Today, I stand not just as a creative, but as a woman who turned isolation into imagination and uncertainty into opportunity.
My work is tangible proof that even when you are locked out, cut off, or standing alone, you can still build worlds – on the page, on the screen, and in your own life.
