If We Are Being Honest
“If We Are Being Honest” stands as more than a book; it’s a profound reflection of my journey towards breaking free from the suffocating grip of perfectionism and embracing authenticity. Through its pages, I share the raw, unfiltered truth of my experiences as a woman and mother navigating the complexities of modern life.
From early on, societal expectations mold us into believing that we must excel in every role we assume—be it as a mother, wife, daughter, employee, friend, or volunteer. Despite external success, internally, we grapple with comparison and self-doubt, setting unrealistic standards that often leave us feeling inadequate and defeated. Yet, it’s our imperfections that make us uniquely beautiful, and it’s in our vulnerability that we find strength.
Motherhood, often lauded as “the hardest job you’ll ever love,” encapsulates the essence of this transformative journey. I don’t think anything can prepare you for the life-altering journey and transformation becoming a mother has on a woman.
I vividly recall the anticipation and excitement I felt as a soon-to-be mom, all the while blissfully unaware of the challenges that lay ahead. While I cherish the gift of motherhood, it’s essential to acknowledge that it can also be an isolating experience, one that few are willing to openly discuss.
Motherhood, for me, was a humbling experience that brought me to my knees. It dismantled my need for perfection and rebuilt me stronger. It made me question everything and nothing all at the same time. It tested my patience one minute, only to make my heart swell with pride the next.
It stretched and fortified me in ways I never thought possible.
As a working mother and wife, I found myself juggling a myriad of roles and responsibilities, each demanding more of me than I felt capable of giving. Yet, amidst the chaos and clamor of daily life, I stumbled upon a profound truth—a truth that would become the cornerstone of my book, “If We Are Being Honest.”
The power of vulnerability.
With mascara-stained cheeks, I confronted the harsh reality of my own perfectionism and lies I was believing about myself. I realized that the relentless pursuit of an unattainable ideal had left me hollow and unfulfilled, yearning for a sense of authenticity and belonging that always seemed just out of reach.
And so, I made a choice—a choice to embrace the messy, imperfect beauty of my own humanity; to relinquish the shackles of perfectionism and step boldly into the radiant truth of my authentic self. It was a choice that would forever alter the trajectory of my life, igniting a flame of empowerment and self-discovery that continues to burn to this day.
It’s through my journey, that I’ve come to understand that these failure beliefs or lies we hold to be true, are universal—a shared experience that transcends race, cultures, and backgrounds.
Through “If We Are Being Honest,” I challenge these beliefs head on and invite women everywhere to do the same. My hope is that they will see themselves within the pages and begin their own transformative journey of self-discovery, healing, and empowerment. “If We’re Being Honest,” is a journey of liberation and transformation—a journey where vulnerability is celebrated, imperfection is revered, and authenticity reigns supreme.
Because yes, motherhood is undoubtedly the hardest job you’ll ever love. It defies preparation, one that pushes us to our limits and reshapes our identities. It is a path marked by vulnerability, resilience, and self-discovery. For me, it was the single most transformative experience of my life, a place of rebirth and new beginnings. It is my hope that every woman embarking on this journey can find within it the same potential for transformation and growth. In doing so, we can redefine our roles, break free from societal expectations, and find strength in our shared experiences as mothers and as women.
Together, let us rewrite the narrative of womanhood and reclaim our power with unapologetic honesty and boundless courage.

IF WE’RE BEING HONEST
If We Are Being Honest is not just a book; it’s a guiding beacon that empowers women to break free from the suffocating grip of perfectionism and embrace their true selves.
Do you ever find yourself feeling alone? As if somehow, you’re the only person in the world who can’t seem to get their life together? Women everywhere struggle with feeling as though we’re failing. We shapeshift in and out of our roles as mother, wife, daughter, employee, friend, and volunteer in a desperate attempt to be all and give all… but at what cost?
Jennifer Thompson was doing well at fitting the bill of being a working mom and wife, but on the inside, she was screaming. She wrestled with comparison, and focused on her inconsistencies and gaps, instead of her ability to continually show up. She set expectations no one could uphold, only to beat herself up when she couldn’t meet them.
With yesterday’s mascara streaming down her face from a good shower cry, she hit a pivotal crossroad. She could continue down a path of chasing perfection at every turn or she could learn to let go. She could choose to love herself today.
She now brings her, “been there done that” stories of her own failures and how accepting herself flaws and all has changed her life…and how it can change yours, too. If We Are Being Honestchallenges women everywhere to walk into freedom and peace by rejecting the idea that perfection exists, and instead, honoring and owning who we are at our core to find joy on the other side.
