    • Thank you so much Elaine, for posting your personal connection with The Waltons and Mary McDonough. And also for adding the links, so we readers can follow our interest as far as we like quickly. Really appreciate your contribution to the conversation here!

  1. When I first watched The Waltons, I enjoyed it so much because I am the youngest of eight, and could relate to so many of the storylines. I loved the way the parents handled the kids’ issues so sensitively. When I found it again in reruns around 2001, I noticed all of the writing-related storylines for John Boy that I had not noticed before.

I wrote this article http://www.klonicki.com/articles/article-reality-in-a-television-survivor.html which was published in the News & Observer in Raleigh. I sent it to creator of the show, Earl Hamner, and we’ve been friends ever since. I now belong to the fan club and have met Mr. Hamner and nearly all the cast members. They are as loving and fun as Mary portrays them in her book, which is a wonderful read.
