September 30, 2022 | By | Reply More

Hello Readers & Friends,

September was a busy editing month as I made the finishing touches to What You Do To Me (5/23/23), but I was able to squeeze in a few great reads. My list includes some real gems plus an oldie but goodie that sat on my TBR for YEARS. I’m glad I finally cracked it open. Can you guess which one? Make sure to check out all these authors and add their books to your wish list. Then tell us what popular book has been sitting on your shelf forever?

All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Hardcover and Audible

The touching story of a blind French girl and a German boy as their lives collide during World War II.

What to expect: Lyrical writing, a war story, a coming-of-age story, and a story that heightens every sense.

A Flicker In The Dark by Stacy Willingham, Audible

When a string of young girls goes missing, Chloe Davis, a psychologist in Baton Rouge remembers the summer her world fell apart. Re-living the nightmare, will she catch another killer?

What to expect: Tension akin to the very best thrillers, shocking plot twists, and a surprise ending.

The Sweet Spot by Amy Poeppel, Paperback ARC

Lauren, Melinda, and Olivia are thrown together by love, hate, and a baby who isn’t theirs.

What to expect: Poeppel’s signature wit will have you laughing out loud, blended, deeply moving families, and flawed, relatable characters. Releases 2/14/23.

The Latecomer by Jean Hanff Korelitz, Hardcover and Audible

The Oppenheimer triplets (born via IVF), share nothing more than DNA, so when they fly the nest at eighteen and their mother has a fourth child, the latecomer impacts the already messy dynamic.

What to expect: A literary masterpiece, complex, layered sibling bonds, and the complicated side of families.

Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Audible

Famed tennis star Carrie Soto comes out of retirement to reclaim her title.

What to expect: Tennis! Father-daughter bonds, the power of persistence in a headstrong protagonist, and a satisfying love story.

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune, Paperback

Percy and Sam meet years after the summer that destroyed their relationship. Can they finally get it right?

What to expect: Summer love and longing, betrayal, and finding your way back.

Hurricane Girl  by Marcy Dermansky, Hardcover

Alison’s having a bad day. A hurricane destroyed her new home on a North Carolina beach, and she may have had a glass vase smashed on her head. Where’s the closest swimming pool?

What to expect: A novel stranger than that description, original characters and storytelling, and a plot that straddles horror and humor.

Lucy By The Sea, Elizabeth Strout, Audible

Lucy’s ex-husband and her friend William whisk her off to Maine during the COVID crisis.

What to expect:  Strout is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors because of her soulful writing, ability to capture human connection and emotion, and this is the first book set during Covid that you won’t be afraid of.

Did you figure out the oldie but goodie? And don’t forget to tell us the book that’s been sitting on your shelf for too long. Happy Reading!
