Writing about Bladder Problems: it’s a Piece of Piss!

Everybody has a book lingering inside them, right? So why did I finally decide that mine had to be born now?

I invite you to the conception of Piss to Bliss:

Agony. Bloodbath. Ambulance.

It’s 4 am on the morning of my birthday 2018. I’m on holiday alone in Spain, sitting on the loo, my derriere numb and imprinted with the toilet-seat. The pain is intensifying with each strangled breath. I feel as if my bladder is going to birth itself: cystitis has struck again.

When the emergency doctor finally gets to me, she calls for an ambulance straight away. It’s bad and that’s frighteningly obvious from the pools of blood parading my bathroom as a crime scene.

I’m rushed to the emergency department in Benidorm hospital. I feel in safe hands and they nurse me for four days. I’m released without antibiotics and told to fly back to the UK once the bleeding stops.

Back at home, I’m convulsing on the sofa unable to breathe, my mum calls for an ambulance.

I have sepsis.

The urinary tract infection was not treated well enough and has spread to my blood.

Delirious I may be, but I still hear the doctor tell my mum that I may not make it through the night, as it depends if the antibiotics get to work on time. I asked myself if I die, is my soul OK, did I do enough? A sad voice replied no, you haven’t written the book, and then I fell asleep. Ta-da! Spoiler alert: I made it.

The next morning, I’m woozy and make a promise: I am finally going to write that empowering book on bladder health, the one that has been niggling at me for decades.

I start making notes on the back of an envelope, which is all I can get hold of from my hospital bed: Bladder Book Bible. Uncut. Ceasing Cystitis Once & For All for Everyone

It was not going to be just any old book, but one that stood out as life-changing and authentic (from my bladder to yours!) and so I wasn’t going to censor anything. I wanted Piss to Bliss to be a transformational conversation between me and my best friend.

Writing about bladders for someone with a lifetime experience of urinary problems was indeed a piece of piss. The hard part was being brave enough to publish it.

What do I hope to accomplish with Piss to Bliss?

During the writing process, the spirit of Piss to Bliss provided a raucous momentum firing me up and leading where it had to go. It was more than a book: it is the start of a movement liberating women from debilitating health issues and social shackles that hold them back.

I set up a company called Dr Jennifer Meyer (yep, took a long time coming up with that name!). This book is the launch of the career that I always wanted but never had the courage.

I think these two mottos help to portray my and the book’s mission:

  • Fortune Favours the Brave
  • Empowering Women’s Self-Esteem & Wellbeing, the Metaphysical Way.

I shall continue doing that through my books, talks, online courses and retreats.

I’m now writing the workbook Piss to Bliss Companion aimed at enhancing the readers’ journey and bladder health success.

Next, I will focus on health issues affecting the throat, voice and depression.

I will also expand on the metaphysics lessons mentioned in Piss to Bliss by writing a book solely on using metaphysics to bring magic and wellbeing to your everyday life.

No more hiding. It’s time to own my purpose so that the next time I meet ‘Death’, my soul will take a deep bow and be at peace, and it all started with writing Piss to Bliss.

So, if you were brave enough, what book would you give birth to?

. My top 10 bladder health tips:

    1. Drink a high-quality aloe vera gel each morning
    2. Keep hydrated with at least 2 litres of still mineral/spring water per day
    3. Wipe from front to back and clean your anus after each poo
    4. If sexually active ensure to have hygienic sex (both partners clean) & go for a gentle pee straight after intercourse to push out anything that penetrated the urethra
    5. Be authentic in all areas of your life, especially with yourself
    6. Avoid inflammatory/acid-forming foods
    7. Know your fulcrum
    8. Value yourself, know your worth & ditch any poverty belief systems
