From an Idea to a Bestseller: Why You Should Never Wait to Write Your Book by Janine Lowe
If someone had told me a few years ago that I would be writing books, presenting on UK Health Radio, speaking to people around the world about Feng Shui and manifestation, and launching my own publishing company, I would probably have smiled politely and thought, “That’s for someone else.”
But isn’t that exactly how so many dreams begin? We convince ourselves that other people are qualified enough, experienced enough or talented enough, while our own stories stay locked away inside us.
Looking back, I realise writing Manifest Your Way to Abundance wasn’t just about producing another book. It was about giving people permission to believe that change doesn’t have to be complicated. More importantly, it taught me that sometimes the simplest ideas are the ones people need the most.
My publishing journey has certainly been one of learning. Every book has taught me something different. With my first books, I discovered the importance of structure, deadlines, editing and trusting other people with your words. That can be quite daunting because writing is personal. You’re handing over something you’ve created from your own thoughts and experiences and allowing someone else to shape it into the best version possible.
By the time I came to write Manifest Your Way to Abundance, I had learnt another valuable lesson. Readers don’t necessarily want more information. They want information they can actually use.
We’re surrounded by books, podcasts, YouTube videos and social media telling us how to create the life we want. Yet so many people still feel overwhelmed. I kept asking myself one question: “What if manifestation didn’t need to feel so complicated?”
That question became the foundation of the book.
I genuinely believed there was an appetite for a practical guide that people could dip into during a busy day. Life is moving faster than ever. We are constantly distracted by notifications, emails, and endless scrolling. Our attention spans are shorter than they’ve ever been, yet our desire to improve our lives has never been greater.
Instead of writing a large, heavy book that readers might intend to finish “one day”, I wanted to create something accessible. A book someone could read with a cup of tea, on a train journey or before going to bed. Something that didn’t feel overwhelming.
The audiobook was equally important to me because so many people now consume books while walking the dog, driving, exercising, or doing the housework. Learning has changed, and as writers, we have to embrace that.
One thing I have always promised myself is that I will never write to impress people. I write exactly how I speak. When readers pick up one of my books, I want them to feel as though we’re sitting together over a coffee, having a conversation. I don’t want complicated language or pages filled with jargon. I want warmth, honesty, and practical advice that people can start using immediately.
People can tell when you’ve lived what you’re writing about. My books are built on years of working with clients, studying Feng Shui, Chinese Astrology and manifestation, and seeing real people’s lives transform. I’ve also experienced challenges, disappointments, and moments where I questioned myself. I think that’s why readers connect with my writing. I’m not pretending to have all the answers. I’m simply sharing what I’ve learnt along the way in the hope it helps someone else.
One of my biggest hopes was that a smaller, easy-to-read book would also encourage younger readers back into reading. Books don’t always have to be 90,000 words to change someone’s life. Sometimes one chapter, one sentence or one idea arrives at exactly the right moment.
Of course, writing wasn’t without its challenges. Like many writers, there were days when self-doubt crept in. Should I explain more? Have I explained enough? Will people understand what I’m trying to say? Those questions visit every author at some point. The important thing is not to let them stop you.
The joy came from knowing that every page had the potential to help someone think differently about their future. That feeling never gets old. Even after several books, I still find it magical that words written quietly at my desk can end up travelling across the world into someone else’s hands.
When Manifest Your Way to Abundance launched, I hoped readers would enjoy it. I never imagined the response it would receive. Seeing it become an Amazon Hot New Release was a wonderful moment and one I’ll never forget. It wasn’t just about rankings. It was confirmation that people were looking for hopeful, practical guidance delivered in a friendly and relatable way.
The media support has also been incredibly encouraging. Radio interviews, articles, and opportunities to talk about the book have allowed me to reach readers I would never otherwise have met. Every conversation reminds me why I started writing in the first place to help people see that positive change is possible.
Perhaps the biggest surprise of all is where this journey has now taken me. The success of my books has inspired me to launch Alley Cat House Publishing, a publishing company dedicated to helping other Mind, Body and Spirit authors bring their own books into the world.
It’s incredibly rewarding to sit on the other side of the desk, encouraging writers who are where I once was, wondering if their story is good enough. My answer is always the same.
If your words have the potential to help just one person, then your book deserves to exist.
So many women wait until they feel ready. They wait until life is less busy, until the children are older, until they have more confidence or more experience. The truth is, there is rarely a perfect time. Start with one page. Then write another. Don’t compare your first draft with someone else’s finished book. Every published author started with a blank page and a head full of ideas.
Writing Manifest Your Way to Abundance reminded me that abundance isn’t just about money or success. It’s about having the courage to share your voice with the world. You never know whose life your story might change. And perhaps, along the way, you’ll discover it changes yours too.
